Battle of Aleppo
What you’re seeing in Aleppo Syria, is an ongoing military confrontation between the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Islamic Front (IF), People’s Defence Units (YPG) and jihadists against the Syrian government and Hezbollah.
The Free Syrian Army is made up mostly of ex military that went awol because they refused to kill unarmed civilians that were protesting the Assad regime. They want to take control away from Assad so they are attacking the Syrian Military as well as ISIS and other groups. The FSA is more interested in democracy.
The Islamic front (who this is supposed to be) is a merger of seven rebel groups. They have fought the FSA and helped the FSA (depending on their goals at the time) and if you don’t like ISIS, then this group is actually fighting them and Hezbollah. This groups wants to initiate Sharia law if they get in to power.
The Peoples Defense Unit are the Kurds and considers itself a democratic people’s militia and supports the FSA and is fighting ISIS as well. It is also attacking the Syrian military for the same reasons the FSA are.
IT GETS A LOT MORE COMPLEX …
Hezbollah is a Shi’a Islamist militant group and political party based in Lebanon. They were funded by Iran following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, and was primarily formed to offer resistance to the Israeli occupation.
Its leaders were followers of Ayatollah Khomeini. Hezbollah’s 1985 manifesto listed its objectives as the expulsion of “the Americans, the French and their allies definitely from Lebanon, putting an end to any colonialist entity on our land”, submission of the Phalangists to “just power” and bringing them to justice “for the crimes they have perpetrated against Muslims and Christians”, and permitting “all the sons of our people” to choose the form of government they want, while calling on them to “pick the option of Islamic government.
They align themselves with Assad even with his acts of barbarism, so they can both fight the occupation of Israel.
Hezbollah wants Israel and America out of the country.
Assad and his military is stealing the wealth of the country and not living up to promises he had made about distributing the wealth of the country. Instead it’s going in to his own pocket. And anyone disgreeing with him gets thrown in some of the worst prisons on earth.
Just like James Foley, who recently got beheaded. He was documenting the Assad regime and the plight of the Syrian people and got thrown in jail.
